I wasn’t sure what to expect for 30 bucks, and thought I’d gamble on it. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised with this little guy! It gives a great boost to headphone volumes as used in my little home studio setup. It was just what I needed and didn’t cost much. There’s no extras, no switches, just 4 volume pots, but its a great buy.

I got this ampflifier for the intent of adding that 2.1-style bass for late night gaming from my PC, and I find the 11 o’ clock position on the knob dial seems to be the sweet spot, which will give you the same amount of bass as a good THX 2.1 system (Logitech Z-2300), without hurting your ears. I use a pair of Sennheiser PC 350s with this, and it REALLY pumps the sound when playing games like Counter-Strike or Unreal Tournament 3. You will need two different adapters for the plugs, tho, since these use the 1/4″ jacks, so I made sure to get a 1/4″ to 1/8″ cable for the input, and a 1/8″-1/4″ adapter for the Sennheisers. However, this does seem to do the trick for PC gaming, glad I found a device like this.

This thing is pretty nifty. I use it to amplify my isolation headphones (vic firth) when I play drums and it really helps me hear the music at the volume I need, which my cd player and ipod cant handle. The volume knobs are smooth and solid, and the 1/4 inch jacks fit nice and secure. The only thing I can say negative about this is that the power cable comes out fairly easy but as long as you aren’t yanking on it, it won’t be a problem. One of the best investments in my studio. (also, more than one input would be nice, but you can always run a mixing board into the amp.)
