Birth Of A Guitar (pt. 1) Guitar Amp

This is a Wood Whisperer first: a series featuring an aspiring luthier, Rick Urschel. Rick takes us through the process of building a classic guitar from a kit available at LMII.com. This is Ricks first attempt at a guitar, and as such, I am not presenting this as a how-to. Instead, this is just one mans experience as he works his butt off making a beautiful guitar for his wife. I think you are really going to enjoy it. A special thanks to Rick for allowing me to Whisperize his content! Any idea when the next part is going to be up?

  15. danno1111 Says:

Nylon string classical guitars have much less tension in their strings than their steel-stringed counterparts, so a truss rod isn’t required.

Wow, you did a great job on those sides. I used Ovankol for the back and sides on my first guitar. Looks beautiful, but they didn’t to bend very easily. Lots of great ideas I wish i had known before in there too. great vid.

Nice job, but were is the guitar strings? How well does it play? I never have seen this type of guitar. How come you can see through it?

  21. Discordanian Says:

Fantastic work. I’ve been thinking of making a guitar also and after watching this, I can safely say I’m not ready. :) But it’s something to look forward to.

a question. as a bassist i have to ask, considering the strings build up a considerable amount of stress to the neck-structure, is the neck solid enough or should it be strengthened more than shown here? secondary worry would be the “chord-board”, how much of a difference are we talking about if we compare electrical instrument tensions and acoustic ones? this all from the “just think” department, naturally, love the clips as always.

  23. TheWoodWhisperer Says:

No I didn’t play that part. I always air drum it when I hear it too, lol. But I do tend to pick music with drum parts that really appeal to me. I was always into Jazz and Funk, so you’ll hear that in the music I select from the royalty-free stuff available to me.

  24. nick0t33n Says:

    that was so cool :D

  25. GamingDrummer89 Says:

That part when you were “playing” the guitar cracked me up…classic.

BTW, I’ve always wondered something…since you’re a drummer (I am too, you could probably tell by my username, haha!), did you play the drum part for the wood whisperer theme (here it’s from 1:28-1:42)? I’ve kinda learned to play along with it…it’s a cool beat. Did you play it and record yourself playing it or was it someone else?
