This is a quality amplifier if you’re into country, surf, rock&roll, funk, ska, jazz… just about anything really! Being a combo makes this amp easier to travel, size-wise at least. And if you’re into metal, as one reviewer here is, then this amp will not be enough without utilising some pedals.
What you get with the Twin Reverb is the definitive reverb of a high-end Fender, plus the tremelo. This reverb+tremelo on an amp was de rigeur in the early/mid sixties. That, coupled with the Blackface cosmetics makes this amp a real blast-from-the-past. You’ll also get Fender’s two seperate channels which can be patched for a fuller sound. Each channel has a bright switch. The amp is also loud enough on it’s own to stand out, way out, above a drummer or whatever your guitar is having to compete with.
The downsides to the Twin Reverb include it’s weight (more than sixty pounds) which is awkward when you’re trying to carry it from it’s single handle at the top of the amp. It would be easier if there were two side handles… but then you’d lose the tilt-back legs. I bought a flight case, and that solved the problem of not having side handes. Plus, I’ve got casters now too!
The only other downside to the Twin Reverb is that the reverb doesn’t really do a whole lot at low volumes. If you can get one here for a thousand you ought to!

If you’re a fan of classic rock, jazz, blues, funk, ska, surf, country, rockabilly – this is the ultimate amp as its clean tones are simply put – unmatched.
Powerful and Beautiful, it will show you exactly how good your guitar really is(if it’s bad, you’ll hear it clearly).
No distortion overdrive though so metal heads stay away unless you’re prepared to fork out for additional pedals/effectors.
It is expensive but worth the price of admission, considering it will be playing with you for years and years to come.

I love this amp…is it for every sound? DUH, no…good luck with that. but for knopfler tone and gorgeous clean organic reverb, especially with a good strat…mmmm good stuff.

I have had this amp for about 6 years now. I got the amp after I had been playing for about a year and a half. The original reason I bought this particular amp was because I wanted something to be heard over a drummer and had a lot of head room. This is the same reason I still use the amp today.
I took two years away from my guitar and during that time I did not touch this amp. It sat collecting dust in my bedroom. When I decided to start playing again I had to get the amp repaired. I had to replace the power tubes and also had the repair tech replace the output transformer and a few resistors. Their was a hum coming from the output transformer and it had to be repaired. I have heard from numerous sources that this is a common problem with the Reissue series Fenders.
I have gigged the amp a total of 7 times, but it has been moved around a lot to tons of jam spaces. To move the amp I pick it up by the suitcase handle and tilt it 90 degrees in order to get two hands on it. It’s a very heavy amp. I’m a young guy in my early 20’s so its not that big of an issue, but keep in mind its heavy enough to cause back problems. I would recommend some sort of hand truck or casters to move it large distances.
Take care of it and it seems like any tube amp reliability wise. You can’t knock it around too much but it will take road ware.
I wanted to save the sound of the amp for last. I use a mid level Schecter guitar with coil taps. The versatility of the guitar and amp combo really pleases me. Single coil or humbucker setting on the tap, the tone of this amp is very pleasant to the ear. I really prefer to plug into the amp and go with nothing in between, but this amp takes pedals very well too. If you want tube break up look elsewhere, because this amp is a clean machine. Don’t expect to do small gigs and jams like me and get any sort of tube clipping, because its loud enough to drown out a drummer while still staying clean as a bell.
You can take this thing anywhere at any situation and not worry about power. Of course, if you can mic your amp you won’t need any of this power. Spend some time with the nice 3 band eq and the bright switch. The mid level control is a huge factor in your volume and tone. I’ve also found that the preamp plays better with the all the tone knobs at least above 6, especially at lower volumes.
You will be heard loud and clear with this thing, and with that said let me be very clear with something. This amp played back through a recording or live with a critical ear will tell you a lot about your guitar’s quality and your playing technique. You cannot hide anything through this amp. All picking dynamics and finger movements show through. It is the ultimate mirror for hearing the way you really sound.
The reverb is the best. The tremolo is a little noisy, and my foot switch to control it broke. I really don’t care to use it that much anyways, however.

My teacher has one of these. For $1000, this is a ripp-off. It (and pretty much any amp Fender has ever made) is pretty much the most un-versatile amp in existance. All it can pretty much do is country and surf, thats it. Forget about hard-rock, metal, funk or anything else in music past 65. Sorry $1000 can get you a top of the line rig. This is just a giant feedback machine. Fender can’t make amps.
