Chromatic Pedal Tuner With Large LED Display
High precision, advanced functionality and sleek style make this new guitar/bass pedal tuner from Korg their most advanced yet. The Korg Pitchblack is the same size as a compact effect unit, and features a tough aluminum die-cast body that will endure hard use on the road or in the studio. While small in size, this strobe tuner boasts a large; easy to read LED meter with a light-emitting surface for excellent visibility in any setting from daylight, to stage light and to no light at all, as well as an extremely smooth eleven-segment LED meter that allows accurate visual tuning from any angle. With a red LED that indicates the tuner’s on/off status, a large note name display, and a tuning guide that indicates whether your instrument is sharp or flat, you’ll always be able to tune quickly and accurately in any situation. The Pitchblack provides a tuning range of E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz), and adjustable calibration between 436 — 445 Hz.
Strobe Tuner With Four Display Modes
The Korg Pitchblack’s LED meter can be switched between four display modes including: Meter mode, Full Strobe mode, Half Strobe mode and Mirror mode.
- Meter mode
Similar to using a needle meter, tune your instrument with this pedal tuner so that the green LED in the center of the LED display lights and both tuning guide LED’s are lit. The tuning LED’s will be to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of the center if it is flat. - Full Strobe mode
Using this pedal tuner, tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and both tuning guide LED’s are lit. The LED meters will stream from left to right if your instrument is sharp and from right to left if it is flat. - Half Strobe mode
Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and only the green LED in the center is lit and both tuning guide LEDs are lit. The LED meters will stream to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of center if it is flat. When the pitch is correct, only the center LED will be lit. - Mirror mode
Tune your instrument with this pedal tuner so that the two LEDs on the left and right sides of the center LED meet in the middle and both tuning guide LED’s are lit. The pitch lit LEDs will spread farther apart the more your instrument is out of tune. The left tuning guide will light if your instrument is flat, and the right tuning guide will light if it is sharp.

The Pitchblack mutes the input signal for silent tuning, and when you’re not tuning, the input is passed directly to the output jack without being affected by any circuitry (True Bypass). Therefore, even if you connect the pedal tuner between several of your favorite pedals, the signal will pass without going through the internal buffer amp, ensuring that the sounds you’ve created using your effects will not be colored in any way. The Pitchblack is designed to coexist transparently with other effect pedals.

Bought this Korg after losing a prior tuner after many years of gigging. Researched on several on-line boards and alot of guys recommended. Wanted something easy to use on a dark stage, tough, and not too expensive. This fits the bill: am satisfied after several months of use. The bright, highly visible read-out cannot be missed or misunderstood. That’s what you want tuning in a hurry, on cluttered, dark stages. The unit is happy living in a jumbled gig bag. Battery lasts a long time. Leave your guitar plugged in (bypass) during a set, or simply keep the unit on your amp to use in-between sets. My bass player used it recently too with no problem. Expect to have this for years.

I think this is one of the best tuner pedals out on the market right now. Even Paul Gilbert was quoted as saying that if he could only take one piece of gear with him other than his guitar/amp, it would be this tuner!
It is amazingly clear to see on the darkest of stages and very quick and accurate. I love the flexibility it offers in terms of bypass and even powering other pedals however I just simply use it out into of the tuner out of the Ernie Ball volume pedal so that it’s always on and never interferes with the guitar signal.
However I must lead to my only negative gripe, perhaps from leaving the tuner on for many, many hours a week for the past 6 months, I have somehow managed to wear it out, or it has developed a fault. For some reason the tuner no longer tunes accurately and it takes a good 3-6 seconds to recognize an open string. I knew something was up and ran out to buy another to replace it. I took the time to A/B the new and old pedal, and could clearly see that the new tuner was fast and zippy as expected. I switched the cables, positions on the board, power supply and everything I could think of but the old tuner was definitely lagging behind.
I left a message on the Korg support forums but have yet to hear a reply, I guess I might be the only one with a Pitch Black that turned into a dud. However don’t let that stop you from picking up one of these sexy babies, they truly are awesome and I have confidence in Korg products that my issue is a one-off.

I have this pedal at the very end of my pedal chain, but I’m sure you could put it anywhere. It’s a great tuning pedal for guitar, bass, and my saz. No, I’m not kidding. I have an electric saz and I plugged it into the tuner… and it helped me to tune it without a problem.
I have mine on “mode one” which is a basic tuning indicator. The other three modes are cute… and I suppose it’s nice to have four different ways to see if you are in tune… but I prefer the basic and simple mode.
I also have mine powered by a Pedal Power 2+, so I can’t comment on how long battery life is expected.
When clicked on, the pedal cuts all sound to your amp, which is a neat function. You tune up, click it off, and you’re ready to go.
A friend of mine has a Boss tuner… which works just as good. I picked this tuner because it’s sleek looking with a large read out, doesn’t do anything to your signal when disengaged, and Amazon had a very good price for it. Win for me!

this is a great stomp box tuner. I was debating between this pedal and boss’s tuner (tu-2). I’m glad I got this one.
One thing that you should know before purchasing this pedal is that it is a true bypass pedal. You can not tune when you have signal going through. some of you may be ok with this but if you so happen to start a song and realize you are a little out of tune, you would have to mute your signal to use the tuner. this is the only down side to this tuner. I don’t know if the boss (tu-2) is like this. I also have a korg DTR-1000 were you can tune while muted or unmuted.

so far I love it! I love the accuracy and the ability to between songs “freshen-up” the tuning. Its wonderful … and the convenience of a stomp/pedal tuner is awesome, no more unplugging and tuning through hand held.
My favorite display setting is #4 (it strobes to the center when tuned! I love it! Thanks for all your help guys. I bought it Thursday night and used it Friday night for practice and Saturday night for Open Door Worship. It was a 3 hour worship service with music throughout, so I was so thankful I could tune. Especially when I had to start using my bass like a bass drum (because the church didn’t allow drums in their sanctuary). So the drum and I had to find inventive ways for the parts that were bass drum driven. It was fun … a million times less stressful because of the Pitchblack Tuner
