I am a beginner drummer and I bought this cymbal set as an upgrade because the basic set I started with (stock 14″ hats and 16″ crash in Fender Starcaster beginner drum set) was basically too crappy. The Sabian B8s were definitely a huge improvement, but do not expect these to sound like the cymbals on professional recordings. They do not sound as nice as heavier cymbals, but the sound is good enough and the range of sounds is varied enough to expand your learning possibilities as a beginner drummer, including the basic 14″ hats, 20″ ride and 16″ crash, plus 14″ and 18″ crashes and even a 10″ splash. The range of sounds and the price are what make this cymbal set a good choice for a beginner drummer IMHO.
