First of all, my new case is SOLID. Even open it doesn’t skew or twist. The top doesn’t compress at all and the lip makes a smooth seal all around.
There are lots of little details you wouldn’t think of, like extra ridges and feet to take the first hits. I live by the sea so materials that are impervious to moisture are essential. The trigger latches are of simple design, easy and fast to open.
The neck is wide to hold shaped foam that cradles your fretboard. This also provides more storage–a spare pack of strings lies flat. It gives a nice balance to the big dreadnought body, both in weight and appearance. Did I mention the comfy, oversized handle?
This is a beautiful case with a gently arched top. The interior is a classy dark jade velour which vacuums well and won’t show stains.
So I’m a fan. The SKB18 costs only a few coins more than an average box, and truly has some superior features. Look no further.

Great outlook and it uses a strong materials for any kind travel. The weight is actually lighter than other standard fabric or skin material guitar case. Very satisfied.
Only negative point is the lit part on other side of the latch does not properly sealed. There is a small gap. It might be only mine.

I have a Taylor accoustic and it fits great. Rock solid case, locks and hinges. Other reviews indicate that this is a heavy case – it is but isn’t that what you would expect from a case designed to protect your guitar? I would highly recommend this case.

I bought an SKB-18 guitar case when for the first time I could not bring my other gig bag into an airline cabin. I didn’t know the plane would be a small plane–a Delta 50-seater. My gig bag, a very high quality Reunion Blues acoustic guitar case, would not fit in the overhead racks. So I was forced to gate check my instrument in the soft-shell case! Once I reached my destination (guitar survived in the soft-shell), I purchased the only flight case available in that city’s largest music store–an SKB-18. My guitar is a vintage, electric hollow-body: Aria Pro II, Herb Ellis model. The SKB-18 is not a perfect fit for the body, though it is for the headstock. I created extra padding and took up the slack in the lower end of the case by laying down a sheet of bubble-wrap and then cutting it to size. I also wrapped the neck in some thinner foam wrapping material and put more foam under the headstock. On the way back home, I again had to take a similar 50-seater, and gate checked the SKB-18 and my guitar. Guitar survived the flight, though the action seems higher than it was. I’m wondering if maybe the action was affected by extreme cold or humidity. I need to fly again in a few days, so I’ve been searching the internet for reviews of this case. No one has written any horror stories about using it as a flight case, but on the other hand, not many people seem to actually use these to fly. I plan to update my rating once I fly again with it. Will not ever rely on being able to check my gig bag in the cabin! If anyone has used this case for flights, please leave comments on your experiences. Hope my review helps somebody.
UPDATE: Was not able to fly again with this case. My scheduled flight got cancelled due to a blizzard. Will update again, next time I fly with it.
