For many years, Rondo Music has been selling wildly-affordable, exceptionally solidly built, authentic sounding clones of Fender Jazz and Precision basses. This package features a gorgeous Fender Jazz clone. Earlier in my “bass career,” I owned a Lake Placid Blue (the pic doesn’t do justice to its beauty) Jazz, albeit with a rosewood fretboard rather than the maple one depicted here. I actually prefer maple, but that’s a small detail in my book. Folks, this instrument surpasses in every way the other Fender clones available on the market, while costing less.
Here, the buyer gets some very significant goodies thrown in, and yet pays about $10 more than s/he would for the SX bass alone. If you’re starting out on electric bass, you get everything you need to strap it on, plug it in, get some how-to tips, and start grooving all in one package. You can always buy that monster-amp later. What’s so special about the SX Jazz Bass? Many things! (a) Let’s face it: It’s very cool that it’s the spitting image of a real break-the-bank Fender Jazz Bass. (b) It sounds very much like a passive (e.g., Standard or American Standard) Fender Jazz Bass. If there’s a defect anywhere, well then forget about paying shipping for the replacement and expect profuse apologies so sincere they almost embarrass you into saying, “never mind, just kidding.” Rondo’s customer-service is far better than that of some big-name-brand companies I’ve dealt with. I’m a professional bassist and own basses that cost me thousands; I had to eat PB&J for weeks to buy those axes and, hey, I lost weight. Don’t do that–it’s bad for you!
Whether this is your first bass or you merely want a bass (with a practice amp) so cheap you don’t lose your mind if you, ummm, lose it, this one’s for you.
