What it is:
The VIVE Surround Sound microphone delivers expansive 5.1 compatible (ProLogic II) audio field capture in an inexpensive super compact package. Mountable on any video camera or connected to a stereo recorder, the VIVE Surround Sound microphone system delivers affordable ($89.95) surround sound in a super compact package. The VIVE is an elegant and simple solution for recording live surround audio from the concert hall and sports stadium to home movie applications. The VIVE is ideally suited for all live events, live music and film and video videographers who are interested in real-time surround audio for video for delivery to an ever increasing home theater audience.

How it works:
Using patented technology the VIVE surround microphone contains multiple microphone elements and a patented encoding process which, when decoded with a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder, translate to the standard surround sound speaker configuration; L, R, C, LFE, LS, RS. The discrete channels are encoded and output as a stereo signal from a stereo mini-plug. These left and right stereo signals can then be connected to the stereo audio inputs on a video camera or any stereo recorder. The encoded signal is recorded onto the media in the camera or recorder. At this point the captured audio can be played back in full 5.1 channel surround over any Dolby equipped home theater system. The stereo recording can also be simply broadcast directly through the standard infrastructure. Once it is received by a home theater system containing a Dolby decoder, the channels are unfolded to their original state. Where no home theater receiver is detected, the signal will simply be heard in stereo.
